In the 1937 “Portrait de Dora Maar,” Picasso depicts a portrait of his lover, Surrealist photographer Dora Maar, also known affectionately as his “weeping woman.” de Pury notes that, “The periods of Picasso’s life were guided, heavily influenced, by the women who were in his life at those particular moments".
